At the National Research and Innovation Council (NRIC) meeting which is being presided by Mr. President and Co-Chaired by His Vice-President with Ministers of cognate Ministries, Departments, and Agencies in attendance, At the National Council on Science and Technology (NCST) holds annually there were consultations on the need to heavily invest into Nigeria’s Research and Development sector in order for the sector to impact meaningfully on Nigerian economy.00 Consultations on the need for collaboration among actors in the National System of Innovation.

Yes, FMST within the year under review has developed some novel policies and programmes geared towards the actualization of SDG, namely: a) National Science, Technology and Innovation Roadmap (NSTIR 2017-2030); b) Presidential Executive Order No.5; c) National Strategy for Competitiveness in Raw Materials and Products Development in Nigeria; d) National Policy on Leather and Leather Products; e) National Policy on Methanol Fuel Production Technology; f) Revision of the 2012 STI Policy and its implementation g) Revitalization and repositioning of all institutes in Nigeria; h) Establishment of programmes for utilization and commercialization of research and development outputs from Federal Research Institutes by small businesses; i) Establishment of Science and Technology Parks across the country subject to availability of intervention funds; and j) Active collaboration with the private sector to create a large number of well paid jobs for Nigerian youths

Yes, Nigerian Government through FMST has developed the following STI Polices: 2012 STI Policy which is currently undergoing a review in line with the present economic realities of Nigeria and at global scale; National Science, Technology and Innovation Roadmap (2017-2030) aims to catalyze and revolutionize Nigerian economy; National Policy on Leather and Leather Products to stimulate Nigeria’s industrialization process.

Yes, Nigeria National STI system is mainstreamed into our national development plans with a view to stimulate the economy while it is being managed by National Research and Innovation Council with Mr. President as the Chairman and his Vice President as vice-chairman, as well as Ministers of cognate MDAs, at the states level, each is expected to establish State Research and Innovation Council in efforts to build a strong and virile National Innovation System.
What economic, finance and policy tools are available to advance STI geared towards sustainable development and effectively meeting the SDGs?
National Science, Technology and Innovation Roadmap (NSTIR 2017-2030) is designed as a catalyst to regig Nigerian economy. Presidential Executive Order No.5 is aimed to promote the utilization of local content in the planning and execution of Nigerian Government’s Programmes/Projects/Contracts. National Strategy for Competitiveness in Raw Materials and Products Development in Nigeria is aimed at stimulating the industrialization of the country through import substitution policy which is geared towards value addition to our local raw materials and products for global competitiveness. National Policy on Leather and Leather Products is aimed to transform Nigeria’s Leather Sector for all-inclusive growth and sustainable national development. National Policy on Methanol Fuel Production Technology is aimed to serve as alternative means of revenue generation to Nigeria in addition to the crude oil. Revision of the 2012 STI Policy and its implementation is aimed to move Nigeria from resource based economy to knowledge based and innovation driven one.
