A national committee was created involving key relevant entities to draft the first report on the implementation of the recommendation on science and scientific researchers. The committee included the following entities: Qatar Research, development and Innovation Council, Qatar National Research Fund, Qatar University, Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Planning & Statistic Authority, Ministry of Education & Higher Education, and Qatari National Committee For Education, Culture And Science.

Science, Technology and Innovation for SDGs

The national strategy for RDI is geared to help achieve SDGs. Below are examples of measures that were taken to address SDG.Goal.8.2, which is around achieving higher levels of economic productivity through diversification, technological upgrading, and innovation, including through a focus on high-value-added and labour-intensive sectors. Establishment of Research Development & Innovation Council. Approval of National RDI Strategy 2030. Development of National Artificial Intelligence Strategy. Development of Precision Medicine Strategy. Establishment of Qatar National Research Fund, national research funding agency with over XXX projects funded since inception. Establishment of QSTP incubation (22 start ups incorporated in 2020) & QSTP accelerator (15 start ups). Creation of the XXM QR Technology Venture Fund (aimed at investing in seed stage tech start-ups). Creation of 5 start ups in 2020 resulting from QCRI research and XX technologies commercialized. Establishment of QSTP Free Zone, which is home for XX technology focused multinationals. Inception of Qatar Academy of Science & Technology (QAST), a secondary school focused on technology and entrepreneurship, whose students have the opportunity to collaborate with QSTP entrepreneurship / innovation programs.
